What you should be looking for is the WEP/WPA code.

MAC addresses are controlled via an international body and issued to manufacturers, I beleive on a coded basis. If you are referring the the MAC address, I find this hard to believe. If you need it later, doing the same will switch it on again. The middle LED should now be unlit and the other 4 should stay the same. To turn it off (max security), press the little button on the front centre of the modem and keep it pressed for 5 seconds. (Flashing means that another WiFi device is connecting with it). If it is lit or flashing then your WiFi is on. There are 5 LEDs on the top of the modem. IF you do not use WiFi, then switch it off altogether and there will be no further problem for you, even if you share this code with others. If I find that this code is identical for a number of users, I'll tackle Cytanet to see what can be done about it. I request you e-mail me, through this forum, this code (I guarantee confidentiality).

It is probably 12 characters in the form AAAAA111AAA1 where A is any upper case letter and 1 is any digit. Please note down the code on the label under the front button. Have a look under your modem and check it is a Thomson TG585 model. This is a potential security breach and it may mean you are inadvertently providing WiFi access to the Internet to third parties within a few tens of metres. I suspect all the CYTA modems may have the same one. I've discovered that a neighbour's modem has exactly the same password as mine. View The Full Original Topic: CYTA ADSL modems.
